William Arthur ("Buddy") Hughes was born on 22 January 1874. He and Mary Ellen Carnes were married. He died on 31 December 1951, at age 77.

"We knew him as "Buddy" and visited him at the old homestead near Decker, Montana in 1949. For breakfast, he fixed us fried ham and biscuits & gravy and we ate it on the back glassed-in porch. Lots of good memories there. We drove out to the homestead about 3 years ago. Not much left but hunters use what's left of the cabin during hunting season."
