Biography
Maude Taylor was born on 28 January 1888 in Near Schell City, Vernon, Missouri. She and
Vesper Ray Henderson were married on 11 September 1905 in Enterprise, Wallowa, Oregon. She died on 25 May 1957, at age 69, in Minam, Wallowa, Oregon. She was buried on 29 May 1957 in Wallowa, Wallowa, Oregon.
I knew Maude Taylor Henderson for years as Grandma Henderson as she was
grandmother to 10 of my cousins.

!OBIT: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Maude Henderson, a long-time
resident of Wallowa, atne the Christian Church Wednesday afternoon. Mrs.
Henderson had been ill for a brief period before her death, but had felt better
shortly before a reoccorance of the illness. She died early Saturday morning.
Rev. James Sinclair of the Christian Church conducted the services. A men's
quartet consisting of Rev. James Sinclair, Rev. John Sinclair of Enterprise,
James McCrae and Crawford Oveson sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "On The
Jericho Road." Pallbearers were Roy Carper, Melvin Carper, Frank Lindsey,
Hershel Scott, Russell Temple, and Spencer Trump. Funeral arrangements were
handled by the Booth-Bollman Funeral home. Mrs. Henderson was born in Shell
City in Vernon county, Missouri, January 28, 1888, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
James Taylor. Living there until Maude was 14, the Taylor family came west in
1902 and moved onto a homestead in the Grossman area. In 1905 Maude married
Vesper Henderson, and they moved onto their own homestead where they lived
until the Fall of 1910. They then moved onto the homestead of Vesper's
parents. In 1919 the Hendersons moved to a place of their own in Promise where
they lived until the Fall of 1938. Because of Mr. Henderson's ill health, they
then moved to Asotin, Wash., where he died January 28, 1939. Mrs. Henderson
moved to Wallowa in the Spring of 1939 where she spent the remainder of her
life, except for a brief period when she worked in a Depot in Ordance during
Workd War II. Two sons, Ray Henderson and Lester Henderson preceded Mrs.
Henderson in death. She is survived by 10 children, Mrs. M.J. Smith (Alice),
of Irrigon, Oregon.; Roy Henderson of Hobbs, New Mexico; Mrs. James Leitch
(Leila) of Hermiston; Arlo Henderson who is stationed a the Yaak Air Force Base
in Montana; Mrs. Ben Wheeler (Doris) of Lostine; Mrs. Grace Horton of Promise;
Mrs. R.L. Gorbet (Elna), Mrs. Cyril Horton (Emma), Lois Henderson and James
Henderson, all of Wallowa. Two brothers Bert Taylor of Asotin, Wash., and
Clyde Taylor of Wallowa; and one sister, Mrs. Esther Tennent of Tacoma, Wash.,
also survive her. Thirty-two grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren are
other survivors. Mrs. Henderson led a very active life in the Christian
Church. She was a friendly person, beloved of hundreds whom she knew. She
will be missed this community. All of the Henderson children, except Roy of
New Mexico, were able to attend the funeral. Lois Henderson was able to book
air passage out of Newfoundland to attend her mother's funeral, and members of
her family met her at airport in Walla Walla Tuesday.

Uncle Cyril was in the nursing home for a couple months prior to his death
Aunt Emma always went in and took him home for the day so he had his home
life, saw his kids and grandchildren and other family members. It was the
nights she couldn't take care of him as she was afraid to sleep for fear he
would fall and she could't help him up, and then he would go outside and her
not know it.
