William James II Oakford

Biography
William James II Oakford was born on 21 February 1919 in Elmworth, Alberta, Canada. He and
Ruth Elizabeth Hoosier were married on 6 May 1939 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. He died on 6 November 1959, at age 40, in Hythe, Alberta, Canada. He was buried in Hythe Cemetery.
W. Oakford of Hythe Dies - Nov. 12 1959 - Hythe - William J. Oakford
Jr., 39, community leader and sportsman, died recently, November 6. He
was born inGrande Prairie in 1920, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
Oakford, Sr., of Elmworth. The family moved to Hythe in 1928 to operate
on of its largest general stores. Bill broke into senior hockey at the
age of 12 and continued to playfor the Mustangs until 1956, when he was
forced to retire because of illness.That year, he was presented with a
trophy by the Hythe Association for hiscontribution of 24 years to
sports in Hythe. He married Ruth Hoosier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Hoosier, now living in Edmonton. Mr. Oakford servedseveral years on the
school board, was past exalted ruled of the Elks Lodge,a member of Hythe
Lodge, A.F. & A.M., a village councillor, and active member of the Board
of Trade, a past president of Hythe Athletic Association and amember of
Hythe United Church. He took over the management of Oakford's Ltd.,
general store in 1945. Besides his widow and family of 10, ranging in
age from Billy Jr., 20, to twin sons aged about four Years, Mr. Oakford
is survived by a brother, Jack: sisters Florence (Mrs. Albert Miller of
Halcourt),Ella ( Mrs. Arthur Pearson), Juliana (Mrs. Earl Tricker) and
Fanny (Mrs. EmilSteinbring), all of Hythe, and his father, in Edmonton.
His mother died last spring and a brother, Eddy, was an RCA casualty in
the Second World War.
